L'EMIGRANTE
COMMENT: is there a MINOR character (anyone but PEPPINO and ROSITA) you found particularly appealing in this film? Who? Explain the reasons of you choice, but please, don't re-tell the whole story.
REPLY: reply to a comment about a character that did nothing for you.
I found Tony-the-Anarchist to be very appealing. He was a very funny character that made me laugh plenty of times throughout the film. Though, he also made me very disturbed at times. Tony made me think twice about the film and question if it is supposed to mainly a comedy or a dramatic sad movie. I don’t know if I can consider it a comedy after watching Tony’s death scene. It's very powerful when a minor character can help sway a film from comedy to drama.
ReplyDeleteThe Cavallo pizzeria owner, Michele, was a character that I liked. Although his initial reaction to Peppino’s act was sour and brash, he ended up giving Peppino what was probably one of his first jobs and a place to stay. I found this very gracious. When the pizzeria is bombed by the Black Hand and Peppino is hurt, Michele runs to Peppino to make sure he’s okay, showing his compassion. I felt terrible that he and his wife could not pay to keep the pizzeria “protected”.

DeleteI felt terrible about that as well as it seem business was blooming in there. It makes you wonder if people would still enter the place after the bombing took place. I wouldn't think so, I would think business would drop at that standpoint.

ReplyDeleteI found Assuntia, Peppino's mother one of the most appealing characters in this story. She struck me as hopeful, being that something inside her believed that Peppino would find his father. I also found it funny that after 20 years, she deemed it necessary that Peppino keep the secret of her finding consolation in the arms of another man. To me, she seemed skeptical in the beginning of the movie and gradually became hopeful as the reality of Peppino traveling to America grew near.

ReplyDeleteThe most appealing character in the movie was Tony. He lived his life the way he wanted too not worry about anything. He knew whatever he did would get him in trouble however it did not stop him. It was funny when he sold his teeth for money then he was upset because he felt the woman wouldn't be interested in him since he did. It have any teeth. It was sad that he died but his friend Peppino made sure to give him his dying wish. Dying in a woman's arms.
ReplyDeleteI found Tony to be the most appealing character because even when Peppino became wealthy and offered Tony some money, Tony didn't change his mind about capitalism. It could've been easy for him to just take the money. Not only was he loyal to Peppino and helped him escape, he remained loyal to his beliefs.
ReplyDeleteI found Don to be the most appealing after Rosita and Peppino due to his mob like qualities. He had the money and the power. Although he may not have been morally correct, he provided an example of how money can truly be the root of all evil.
ReplyDeleteI liked Tony because even when he was about to die he still cared about Peppino. Even to the extent of asking Peppino to run away whiles he was dying.
ReplyDeleteThe character that I found amusing was the blond young girl named Pamela. I found her to be very annoying Pamela was incredibly naive, and I believe she had psychological problems that affected her mind deeply.
ReplyDeletePamela honestly did nothing for me in this film. I feel as if she had no purpose in the movie and that her character was quite irrelevant. I do agree however, that she was very annoying!
DeletePemela annoyed more more than entertained me. Every time I saw her appear on screen I got more and more annoyed. To me she was just a pest that never went away. I'm sure Pepinno had similar feelings. I definitely agree that she was annoying.
